REGARDING RECENT CHANGES TO OUR WEBSITE, CLICK HERE

In light of recent unfortunate circumstances surrounding one of our employees in Navi Mumbai, Campbell White releases the following official statement:

Campbell White Employee Ken Haywood was questioned by police and ATS officials on July 26th concerning an email that appeared to originate from Mr. Haywood’s home wireless internet IP address.

Police have now eliminated him as a suspect concluding that his internet connection was compromised.

From the beginning of the investigation, police assured Mr. Haywood they were confident of his innocence.

Mr. Haywood quotes ATS (Anti Terrorist Squad) stating “I was never named a suspect.”

Officials have determined that Mr. Haywood’s computer and/or email address were compromised by a third party and illegally misused.

Contrary to erroneous press reports, neither Mr. Haywood, family members, landlord, or anyone connected with Campbell White have been detained by the police, or charged with any crime whatsoever.

Mr Haywood also stated “The police have always been encouraging and professional.”

Campbell White appreciates the professionalism of the police personnel and ATS officials. We are confident that they will be able to apprehend whoever is responsible for this horrible crime.

Campbell White is reviewing our employee’s computer practices and diligently reminding them to keep their home internet usage secured and protected.

Mumbai: MD: When did you realize your IP address had been hacked into?
KH: On Saturday (July 26), at around 10 pm. I received a call from the ATS in Delhi asking if I ran a cyber cafe (at Sanpada). I told them I lived there. Within 30 minutes, the ATS were at my doorstep, telling me my Internet had been compromised.

Do you use wi-fi to connect to the net? Do you think it has been hacked to steal your IP address?
Yes, I have a wireless router. The ATS are certain that is what occurred.

Is your laptop secure?
All the computers are secure within my flat. However, the Tata/VSNL technician who set up the wireless router said it was not necessary to set up security because the computers have firewalls. He also disabled the routers logging capability.

What did the police ask you?
From the beginning, the police reassured me that I had done nothing wrong. They wanted to know who had access to my computer - only my family and the Tata-VSNL Technicians do. I talked to them for 72 hours.

What impression of India and its police has this left on you?

The police and the ATS have been very professional and courteous. They have been helpful in addressing my concerns. We are confident they will find the culprits of this horrific act.

Has the ATS given you a clean chit?
The top ATS agents have continued to tell me how we have completely cooperated. They have said nothing has been found to implicate us. I've been told that an official statement will be coming soon. The ATS in Delhi told me over the phone that I was completely in the clear.

Do you suspect someone?
I don't know who could have done this. The police are handling the investigation.

What's your biggest fear?
I fear for the safety of my family.

Lawyer speak

It's shocking to learn that the terrorists involved in the blasts have the means of hacking into an innocent person's email ID. Misusing the email ID of my client, an American citizen, shows a deep-rooted conspiracy to destabilise our country and create a conflict between India and the US. It's fortunate that the authorities were able to ascertain that my client's email ID was stolen.
